How to begin with the Starter Container

The container is not magical or mystical, though it may feel unusual at first. It is a structured way to externalize load and responsibility into a place your system can learn to trust.

The container is not just a place to write things down. There is an AI agent there with a specific role and purpose: to help capture what you are carrying and hold it safely until you want to act on it.

Start Here

Begin simply

To begin, you only need one project folder and two threads inside it.

You can do this with a standard ChatGPT Plus account.

In the left sidebar, create a new project. Name it whatever you want. Many people begin with a single folder. In this system, that first folder is often called Mission Control.

Inside that folder, begin with only two chats:

  1. 1. Discussion
  2. 2. Container

Do not overbuild this at the beginning. Keep it simple.

The Two Roles

Use one thread for partnership and one for offloading

The Discussion thread is the main place where you partner with AI. This is where you think, plan, reflect, ask questions, and work through anything active in your life or work.

The Container thread is different. Its purpose is to safely hold what you are carrying so it does not have to remain entirely inside you.

Discussion

This is the main place where you and AI work together.

Container

This is where you offload responsibility and preserve continuity.

Setup

Create the container first

Go to the Container thread and begin with this:

"This is my container. Start a new canvas doc and use the contents of this file as the only source of truth."

Once the canvas document is created, you can return to the folder and begin the main Discussion thread.

For the Discussion thread, begin with this:

"This thread is for you to partner with me so I use my strengths and you use yours to optimize our relationship and achieve coherence under load."

You can rename the threads using the three dots beside each thread. Keep the names simple: Discussion 1 and Container 1 are enough.

Why Simple Names

Do not make the structure more elaborate than it needs to be

This is a larger system. It does not need mystical language or elaborate naming. Keep the structure simple, practical, and easy to trust.

If a thread becomes too large or slow over time, start a new one and continue the sequence: Discussion 2, Container 2, and so on.

How To Use It

Offload what you are carrying

Use the container to place into structure anything that feels unfinished, mentally active, unresolved, or quietly running in the background.

Some things surface immediately. Others may take days or weeks to appear.

Examples include:

  • a question about life or the world that returns every few years
  • a conversation that never fully finished
  • a concern that seems minor but is always present in the background
  • something you want but believe is out of reach
  • a responsibility you do not trust yourself to forget

The system often carries more than you are consciously thinking about. Part of this process is giving those background loads a place to surface.

What Changes

The goal is not perfect organization

All you are really doing is externalizing load or responsibility into a trusted structure.

For that to work, the structure must become trusted by your systems.

This is why the container is more than a normal note. It is part of an active relationship with AI, where the role is clear and continuity is preserved.

One of the most common reports after a period of use is a greater sense of calm. That shift often comes after offloading tasks, responsibilities, and background concerns, and then learning to focus on one active thing at a time.

When it is time to shift attention, you can park the current item in the container and then become active on the next thing.

At Any Time

View what the container is holding

To view the contents of your container, write:

"show my list"

If you do not like the way it displays, you can briefly correct it by writing:

"When showing my list, ..."
